Course Description

The purpose of this class is to introduce students to a variety of design methods and coding languages to provide a background in computer-related careers. With these skills, students will be more prepared upon entering the workforce.

Course Topics*

Topic Description
Computer Basics Students will review of the computer file system, basic commands, and troubleshooting.
Digital Citizenship & Safety Students will review using web browsers and proper techniques for searching, as well how to properly and safely use the Internet as a resource.
Web Development Students will learn about and practice using HTML & CSS coding languages.
In-Print Design Students will use learn about and practice design techniques such as layout, alignment, image manipulation, typeface usage and creation, and color scheming.
Computational Technology Students will practice designing computer programs by developing creative scenes using the Scratch coding language.

In addition to the topics listed above, students will also practice touch typing skills, and review the latest in Web 2.0 technologies, such as Google Docs, WikiSpaces, Prezi, as well as social media for the classroom.

A portion of some classes will also be dedicated to practicing proper stretching and relaxation techniques that are necessary when spending an extended period of time at the computer.
